Thank you to everyone who came with HERO to the International Coastal Cleanup this past weekend at Bald Point State Park! The International Coastal Cleanup is a one-day, worldwide event started by Ocean Conservancy where volunteers go out and cleanup their local beaches. We really had a blast getting to know everyone while we made an impact on our community!

Hey HEROs!

Next Meeting Date:

It was great to see a lot of familiar faces and some new ones at our second meeting! Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 2nd at 5:00 PM in SSB 218.

Dues:

Dues must be paid at this upcoming meeting! Dues are $35.00 for the entire year. To be considered an active member of this organization and to be considered for the mission trips, dues must be paid. This payment also covers the cost of your club shirt. This year's design is shown here:

Points Opportunity:

At our next meeting on Wednesday, October 2nd, we will be collecting donations for the victims of natural disasters, such as Hurricane Dorian and Hurricane Michael. In partnership with Second Harvest of the Big Bend, we will be collecting nonperishable food items from 9/18 until 10/2. Donating three nonperishable food items will earn you one point towards your required membership points. You may donate as many items as you would like, but we cannot award more than one point for your acts of generosity. Monetary donations will also be welcomed and a donation of $5.00 or more dollars will also earn you one point.

See you guys soon!

Sincerely,

The HERO team

We hope you all enjoyed our first GBM as much as we did! The H.E.R.O. mission means a lot to us and we are so glad that we got to share it with you.

To recap the meeting:

1. The Points System

All members of our organization must earn six or more points throughout the semester. One point will be awarded for each meeting you attend, each volunteer activity you attend, and if you contribute to our supply drives. Earning the required six points will allow you to apply for our mission trips. To be considered a competitive applicant, you may want to surpass the six points.

2. Membership Dues

All members of our organization must also pay dues. Dues are $35.00 for the entire year, this covers both the fall and spring semester. Dues help us to pay for your club shirts, social events, and occasional meetings where we provide food and refreshments. You must have your dues paid to apply for our mission trips as well.

3. Volunteer Opportunity

We will be participating in an ocean cleanup event at Bald Point State Park on Saturday, September 21st. The cleanup begins at 8:30AM and is about an hour away from Tallahassee. We will be meeting outside of the College of Medicine at 7:00AM to organize carpooling arrangements. Participation in this event will earn you one point. You can sign up for this event here.

4. Disaster Relief Donations

At our next two general body meetings, we will be collecting nonperishable food items for victims of natural disasters, such as Hurricane Michael and Hurricane Dorian. If you donate three or more nonperishable food items, you will be awarded one point. You may donate more than three items, but we cannot award more than one point for your acts of generosity. You may also make monetary donations, a donation of $5.00 or more will also earn you one point.

Lastly, our next general body meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 18th at 7:00PM in SSB 201. If you were unable to make it to the last meeting, SSB is the building attached to the Traditions parking garage on the FSU campus. After the meeting, we will be going to Chipotle on West Tennessee Street for dinner. We hope you all will come so that we can get to know one another better!

We can't wait to see you all again!
